About this DOCX to PDF converter

The converter turns a Word .docx file into a PDF entirely in your browser. Mammoth.js reads the document's XML and converts it to HTML, html2canvas draws that HTML onto A4-sized pages, and pdf-lib assembles the pages into a PDF you can download.

Because each page is rendered as a picture rather than built from real PDF text, the layout looks the same wherever it opens, but the PDF's text can no longer be selected, searched or copied.

How to use it

A read-only preview of the parsed document appears below the queue, so you can see whether it looks right before converting.

Click Convert DOCX to PDF. Your browser renders the pages; a progress bar tracks the two stages.

Get your file

When the PDF is ready, its name appears with a Download button beside it, taken from your original file name. Nothing is saved until you click it.

What it does

  • Your browser renders the document and builds the PDF; the file is never uploaded.
  • Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, bulleted and numbered lists, tables and images carry over. Links stay blue but are not clickable, since each page is a picture.
  • A Word page break starts a new PDF page, and the tool also starts a new page on its own when content would otherwise overflow.
  • If the page render fails for any reason, the tool falls back to plain wrapped text in Helvetica, which does stay selectable.
  • Converts one document at a time, up to 100 MB.

What the converter does not do

It turns a Word document into a fixed, image based PDF. Some things do not make the trip.

Always A4

Every page comes out as A4 with 0.75 inch margins, even if your document uses Letter or another size with its own margins.

No selectable text

Each page is an image, so the PDF's text can't be selected, searched or copied. Run the result through PDF and image OCR if you need the text back.

Fonts and colours reset

Every heading and paragraph is redrawn in Arial at fixed sizes, in black text except blue links. Your document's own fonts, point sizes and text colours are not kept.

No headers, footers or columns

Mammoth does not read a Word document's headers, footers or page numbers, and multi-column layouts are not reproduced; content renders as a single column.

Only real .docx files

The file picker also accepts an old binary .doc file, but the parser can't read that format, so conversion fails. Save it as .docx first.
