About this PNG to JPG converter

The converter opens each PNG in your browser, draws it on a canvas at its original width and height, and saves it as a JPG at quality 92 out of 100. PNG can hold transparent and semi-transparent pixels; JPG can't, so those areas are filled with solid white before the file is written.

Photos and screenshots saved as PNG are often larger than they need to be, since PNG's lossless compression doesn't shrink photographic detail well. Converting to JPG usually cuts the file size a lot, which helps when a screenshot is too big to email or a form asks for a JPG.

How to use it

Each converted file shows the PNG size next to the JPG size. Expect the JPG to be smaller.

What it does

What the converter does not do

It changes the format and flattens transparency onto white. For other changes, use one of the other image tools.

Fixed white background

Transparent areas always become white. There is no colour picker or other background option in this tool.

No quality control

JPG quality is fixed at 92 out of 100. For an adjustable quality slider, use Image converter.

Not always smaller

A PNG with few colours and flat areas is already compact, and a JPG of it can come out larger. Check both sizes in the list before you delete the original.

Metadata is dropped

The image is redrawn, so any metadata stored in the PNG is not copied into the JPG.

Same dimensions

The JPG is not resized or cropped. To change its size, use Image resizer.

Very large images

Browsers limit how big a canvas can be, so a very large image can fail, most often on a phone. The file is then marked failed in the list.

No. JPG can't store transparency, so every transparent or semi-transparent pixel in the PNG is filled with solid white before the file is saved.

Your images stay on your device
