About this GIF to JPG converter

The converter turns GIF files into JPG images. By default it saves the first frame of each GIF. Choose Every frame in the settings and it writes each frame of the animation as its own JPG, numbered in order and packed into a ZIP.

Many animated GIFs store only the part of the picture that changed from one frame to the next. For the every-frame export, the page decodes the GIF itself and rebuilds each frame as it appears on screen before saving it. JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels become white. Frames are saved at 92% JPG quality and keep the pixel size of the GIF.

How to use it

Under Frames to export, keep First frame only for one JPG per GIF, or pick Every frame to get the whole animation.

What it does

  • First frame only saves one JPG per GIF, named after the original file.
  • Every frame saves each frame as its own JPG (name_frame_001.jpg, name_frame_002.jpg and so on) and packs the frames of each GIF into a ZIP.
  • Frames are rebuilt as they look in the animation, including the parts carried over from earlier frames.
  • Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG has no transparency.
  • Several GIFs can go through in one batch, and Download all (ZIP) collects every result in one archive.
  • The GIFs are read and converted in this tab, so they are not uploaded.

What the converter does not do

It saves still images from a GIF. It does not edit the animation or improve the picture.

No single-frame picker

You get the first frame or all of them. To keep one frame from the middle, export every frame and keep the file you want.

JPG only

A JPG can't keep transparency. For a PNG of the first frame, use the image converter.

No quality or background setting

JPG quality is fixed at 92%, and transparent areas always become white.

No colour recovery

A GIF frame holds at most 256 colours. Saving it as a JPG does not bring back detail the GIF never stored.

Timing is not kept

Frame delays and looping belong to the animation. The JPGs are separate still images.

Same size as the GIF

Frames keep the pixel dimensions of the GIF. To make them larger or smaller, use the image resizer.

Yes. Choose Every frame in the settings before you press Convert to JPG. Each frame is saved as a numbered JPG, and the frames of one GIF are packed into a ZIP.

JPG has no transparency, so the converter fills transparent pixels with white. To keep transparency, convert the GIF to PNG with the image converter, which saves the first frame.

Yes, but add it again first. Files that are already converted are skipped, so remove the file or clear the queue, add the GIF again and press Convert to JPG.

No. They are read and converted in this tab. The page downloads the JSZip library from the cdnjs CDN when it has to build a ZIP, and no request carries your files.

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and larger files are not added to the queue. There is no daily limit. A long animation exported frame by frame makes many JPGs, and all of them stay in memory until you remove the file or close the tab.
