About this SVG to PNG converter

The converter rasterises each SVG on a canvas. It reads the width and height declared in the file, falls back to the viewBox when they are absent, and scales the drawing so the longest side is at least 1024 pixels. If nothing usable can be read, it draws 1024 by 1024.

The PNG is written by the browser, so it is lossless and it keeps transparency. A vector file stays sharp at any size on its own, so the point of this page is a raster copy for somewhere that will not take an SVG.

What this converter does not do

It rasterises a self contained drawing at one size that it works out for you. Some jobs are better served elsewhere.

No size box

The pixel size comes from the file, scaled so the longest side is at least 1024. To set the dimensions yourself, convert first and then use Image resizer.

Nothing is fetched over the network

Anything the SVG pulls in, such as an external image or a web font, does not load during the conversion. The drawing has to be self contained.

Fonts are the ones you have

Text is drawn with the fonts the browser already has. A font your machine is missing gets substituted, so the letters can shift. Converting text to paths in a vector editor avoids that.

foreignObject may not convert

An SVG that embeds HTML through a foreignObject element may fail to convert at all.

No background is added

The clear parts of the drawing stay clear. For a white background instead, use SVG to JPG.

That comes from the file. The converter reads the width and height declared in the SVG, or the viewBox when they are missing, and scales the drawing so the longest side is at least 1024 pixels. An SVG that declares nothing usable gives a 1024 by 1024 PNG.

Yes. PNG carries an alpha channel, and the clear parts of the drawing stay clear. For a white background instead, SVG to JPG draws the same picture onto one.

Text is drawn with the fonts your browser already has. A web font named in the SVG is not fetched during the conversion, so something else is substituted. Convert the text to paths in a vector editor and it rasterises exactly as drawn.

Usually the browser could not read it as an image: it is damaged, it is not really an SVG, or it embeds HTML through a foreignObject element, which may not convert. Files over 100 MB are not added to the list at all.
